History
Purple Fox Band formed in Baltimore, Maryland, in early 2013 when vocalist/songwriter Papi Fields decided to broaden his R&B talents and start an improv funk jazz band. For a performance at the Baltimore Convention Center, Papi opted to bring in some instrumental help to give his performance more depth.
Papi Fields is the grandson of Baltimore Jazz legend, saxophonist Mickey Fields. Musical talent runs deep in the Fields family. Papi plays the sax, drums, piano and of course his main skill is singing and song writing. Papi's road to musical greatness has been one of challenge and hard work. His parents abandoned him as a child and he grew up on the streets of Baltimore as a homeless youth. He eventually was taken in by a woman who called him Papi. With his new Spanish friend/mother he had a place to call home and had a chance to focus on his school work and music. This Spanish connection helped foster some great latin musical elements to his work as well.

After high school, Papi joined the US Army where he served for eight years which included a tour in the Iraq War. After returning home, he again took his music to another level by writing and aligning himself with producer John Cain in the R&B / Rap music genre. After a few produced albums and many live performances, his music evolved so did his wish to return to his roots of playing with a band. Papi still produces music for the R&B and Rap genres, but has added the Purple Fox to his amazing list of musical accomplishments.
The Purple Fox band in Baltimore has since played for private parties and local events. In November, they were honored to play for the first time at Peabody of Johns Hopkins for a fundraising event for youth. The event was professionally recorded for audio and video. If your event is in need for a recorded audio / video experience this can be easily provided as an add on service.
Fields found assistance in keyboardist RT Keys and drummer Alphonso Prince , who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Baltimore Jazz / gospel music scene. Based on the recommendation of Fields's record label BMMG(Blue Mountain Music Group), the improve funk jazz band formed and did so in quick order. RT and Papi both played together in bands when they were teens and to come back years later as seasoned musicians added to their ability to quickly jump in and write new original material. Alphonso Prince plays in a local gospel band with RT Keys. Ale has played in Jazz bands in the Baltimore area for years and is excited about the amazing chemistry between all of the members of the band.
To develop the unique sound, Papi asked his long time friend, guitar player, Paul Gambichler to join the band. Paul plays in some local rock & roll bands in Baltimore and he provides a unique electronic sound to the band that gives it a modern feel. The missing links were the background vocalists that would also have key roles and perform lead on their own songs.
Bianca Martinez has been featured with Papi on his R&B works over the years and she has progressed as strong vocalist and actress. Stellar vocalist, Javon Green, has also added his vocal talents to the band with a background in gospel and R&B. Javon is also Papi's cousin and have played together since they were kids.
Last but not least, Nikki Torres joined the band but was initially going to star in a music video. Her ability to learn new material and her vocal talents impressed Papi. She has also sang since she was a kid and has also done modeling and has won beauty pageants.
So the one thing that makes Purple Fox stand out among all other bands is their ability to create music on the fly and involve the audience in their performances. Hence being signed just as the band was forming and having the backing of a record label based on the combined talent of the entire musical ensemble. The music will get you up and dancing and also take you on an emotional ride with some of their cinematic instrumental scores.
Purple Fox talents go very deep in that their music has been selected to be featured in a feature film that is in pre-production in Baltimore. Both Papi Fields and RT Keys are co-producing film score tracks and songs that will be featured in the feature film.
Let Purple Fox give your private party a musical experience they will never forget. This ego less and grounded ensemble is easily approachable and a fun addition to your special event.
